GREETINGS FROM THE SECRETARY-GENERAL
Dear delegates, faculty advisors, and friends,

It is my honor and privilege to invite you to the nineteenth iteration of the London School of Economics and Political Science's Model United Nations conference, taking place at our historic campus between the 7th and 9th of February, 2025. In the coming months, I will work alongside eight exceptionally talented LSE students to create an event that showcases the university's academic rigor and encourages reflection on contemporary global issues.​

Nearly two decades ago, LSEMUN pioneered crisis MUN. In this innovative take on the traditional General Assembly format, delegates do not represent countries or non-governmental organizations. Instead, they step into the shoes of statesmen, military leaders, and other decision-makers. Our approach eliminates the formulaic and static aspects of moderated debate, creating a fast-paced and dynamic environment. In other words, the days of tirelessly drafting resolutions whose effects remain unseen are over. Here, every action has a consequence, which will demand adaptability from you and your peers to face novel developments.​

Our theme for LSEMUN XIX is "Overcoming Adversity, Building Resilient Leaders." The objective is to enhance your capability to effectively handle unforeseen and challenging circumstances, be it in the realm of international relations or everyday situations. Today's world is marred by geopolitical instability, while the digital age's rapid dissemination of information overwhelms decision-makers with constant challenges. As historian Yuval Noah Harari aptly stated, "In a world deluged by irrelevant information, clarity is power." Our goal is to assist you in achieving this clarity and proficiently navigating the complexities of the present-day crises, as these skills are increasingly vital in both governmental and broader employment contexts. Additionally, we seek to underscore how effective crisis management necessitates a holistic approach that recognizes the intersectionality of global issues. Because if we do not think in an interdisciplinary manner, we set ourselves up to being surprised by consequences of our actions.​​
